Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

The birth of Ava DuVernay was on the 24th day of August on the 24th of August, 1972, in Long Beach California. DuVernay was motivated to pursue her love of art by DuVernay's aunt Denise as a young girl. DuVernay worked as a night nurse to allow her aunt to have the space she required during the day for the love of literature, art and theater. DuVernay immediately became enthralled with the 1961 West Side Story film. DuVernay saw how art was a powerful tool to promote social activism. DuVernay was educated by her mother who was a social sassy and instilled DuVernay to exhibit her artistic talents. The father of DuVernay's mother recalled protests for civil rights that took place over the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the close-by town Selma in Alabama. DuVernay was inspired by her time in Selma, and later directed an documentary on King's father, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in the year 1990. After graduation she was enrolled at her first year at the University of California Los Angeles which she graduated with certificates in English as well as African American studies. DuVernay began producing for the broadcast industry while she was in her university. DuVernay was an intern at CBS News at the time of the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being given the task of watching the home and looking through the trash of one of members of juries. In the course of her tasks she was dissatisfied with journalistic work and entered the public relations industry. DuVernay was immediately hired out of college as an intern at an unassuming studio. Her private PR company, The DuVernay Agency was founded in 1999. Apart from PR, the agency also created a variety of lifestyle and promotional networks including Urban Beauty Collective, the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
